San Anselmo Library Reopens with Community Celebration and New Features

In Marin County, the San Anselmo Public Library is back in business after a four-month renovation. The town’s planning an April 18 ceremony to celebrate the reopening at 110 Tunstead Ave.

The century-old building got some much-needed upgrades. Crews installed a new heating and air conditioning system, repaired the roof, and gave the children’s reading area a facelift—all while keeping that historic charm intact.

The library reopened to the public on March 23. Folks from San Rafael, Fairfax, Mill Valley, and pretty much everywhere nearby are invited to rediscover the space.

San Anselmo Library Reopens After Renovations

The four-month shutdown gave contractors a chance to upgrade the library’s infrastructure. They managed to do this without losing the warmth people love about the 110 Tunstead Ave site.

Now, with a modern HVAC system, visits feel comfortable year-round. Families from Ross, Larkspur, and Corte Madera often spend weekend afternoons here, then wander down San Anselmo Avenue afterward.

Renovations included fixing the roof to deal with the old building’s wear and tear. The children’s reading area got a makeover too, turning it into a brighter, more welcoming spot that really encourages early literacy and play.

Some patrons have mentioned the room feels more open and inviting these days. You can actually see it in the photos the library posted—kids and caregivers exploring the new setup, looking pretty happy about it.

Ceremony Details and Featured Guests

The April 18 celebration kicks off with a ribbon-cutting from 9:30 to 10 a.m. right in front of the library. It’s a classic tradition, meant to show the community’s support for public spaces—always a nice touch.

At 10 a.m., Jeanne Walker Harvey will read her picture book Boats on the Bay. The story feels especially fitting for Marin folks who live along the bay and the Larkspur-to-Sausalito corridor.

After the reading, at 10:30 a.m., local musician John Pedersen will take over. He’ll play an Irish banjo and fiddle set, a little nod to Marin’s wild mix of artistic roots.

  • Where: San Anselmo Public Library, 110 Tunstead Ave.
  • When: April 18 ceremony schedule — 9:30–10 a.m. ribbon-cut; 10 a.m. author reading; 10:30 a.m. music.
  • Guests: Jeanne Walker Harvey and John Pedersen.
  • Renovations: roof repairs, upgraded children’s reading area, new heating and air conditioning system.
  • Registration: details available online at the library’s site.

Photos from the library’s announcement show patrons relaxing in the newly renovated children’s room. The space pops with bright colors and comfy seating, practically begging families from San Anselmo and nearby towns to hang out and read.

Across Marin County, events like this hint at a shared commitment to public institutions. Towns like Tiburon, Belmont, and Novato keep investing in places that double as gathering spots, literacy hubs, and little pockets of culture along the North Bay’s shoreline.
