Tiburon, often known for its stunning waterfront and a certain upscale vibe, is about to host its first-ever Pride Picnic. The event aims to boost visibility and bring together the LGBTQ+ community and allies for an afternoon on the Bay, full of joy, color, and connection.

Local residents took the lead on this one, hoping to fill a gap in inclusive programming. They promise more than just a picnic—think intention-setting rituals, family-friendly fun, and support for local organizations.

A New Tradition Blossoms in Tiburon

The LGBTQ+ community in Tiburon has long wanted a more visible platform for celebration. Suki Skye and her wife Katya saw the need and jumped in to organize what could become a tradition: Tiburon’s first Pride Picnic.

This family-friendly event happens on Sunday, May 31st, from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM at Shoreline Park. It’s not just a meet-up—the day starts with an intention-setting ritual at 1:00 PM, where people can share their hopes for the community and get creative with chalk art.

A Spectrum of Activities for All

The afternoon’s set to be lively, with activities for just about everyone. DJ Kirill will keep the music going, and the energy up.

If you’re into vintage finds or want to show off some pride, you’ll find vintage clothes, colorful pride umbrellas, and hand-painted T-shirts for sale. Tarot readings will add a little magic to the mix, if that’s your thing.

Local collaboration stands at the heart of the event. Some favorite Marin County eateries are stepping up so no one has to go hungry.

Caffe Acri and Highlow Larder will be offering picnic boxes, so you can just relax and enjoy the day without worrying about packing lunch. It’s a thoughtful touch and really shows the spirit of support behind the event.

Beyond the Picnic: A Wave of Marin Pride

The Tiburon Pride Picnic kicks off a whole series of Pride celebrations across Marin County. The Marin LGBTQ Center will be on hand, offering resources and support.

Sales from those hand-painted T-shirts will help support the Center’s work, which honestly feels like a win-win for everyone involved.

When the picnic winds down, the celebration keeps going. Cinelounge is hosting an after-party from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM, with more music, food, drinks, and a chance to check out local art.

A County United in Pride

Organizers and local business owners are buzzing with excitement about this event. They’re hopeful it’ll shine a brighter light on Tiburon’s queer community and add to the vibrant diversity that makes Marin County unique.

Honestly, it’s hard not to feel the energy. This event feels like a beacon, hinting at bigger things ahead for our region.

The Marin Pride calendar is packed with things to look forward to:

  • Flag-raisings will happen in Tiburon, Novato, San Rafael, and Mill Valley. These ceremonies kick off Pride Month in each community.
  • Pride Mill Valley lands on June 6th. That day promises a full-on celebration in one of Marin’s most charming towns.
  • The Joy House pride dance party is set for June 7th. It’s all about dancing, joy, and just letting loose for a night.
  • From June 12th to 14th, San Rafael will host a handful of LGBTQ+ film screenings. Expect a mix of stories and perspectives on screen.
  • There’s also a quirky Pride Art Walk Puzzle in San Rafael, plus a sweet Read with Pride family program at the Marin County Civic Center farmers market on June 14th. And don’t miss the special library displays of Pride-related books popping up in libraries all over Marin—those are for everyone, young and old.

The Tiburon Pride Picnic kicks things off with a bang. It brings people together and sets a joyful tone for a month that’s all about love, acceptance, and genuine community spirit across Marin.
