Understanding the Recent Power Shutoffs

The preventative outages peaked at over 11,000 customers across the Bay Area on Thursday, while statewide disruptions affected nearly 90,000 homes and businesses starting Wednesday. Utility crews were able to launch service restoration efforts by Friday afternoon, beating the originally projected Saturday timeline due to improving weather conditions.

County-by-County Recovery Breakdown

By late Friday afternoon, total regional outages dropped significantly to 5,857 customers as crews worked around the clock. Napa County accounted for 2,592 of the remaining affected accounts, followed closely by Alameda County with 2,130.

Other areas experienced varying degrees of lingering impact before full service could be safely re-energized. Sonoma and Contra Costa counties reported 1,092 and 43 outages respectively, while Solano County successfully restored its roughly three dozen affected customers.

Weather Forecast and Future Outlook

The National Weather Service confirmed that the dangerous red flag warning officially expired earlier on Friday. Although moderate heat was expected to linger into Saturday, strong offshore winds finally began to subside across the region.

Forecasters are now anticipating a steady cooling trend along with the welcoming return of the marine layer by the following week. These favorable shifts will greatly reduce wildfire risks and stabilize the local electrical grid moving forward.
