Palo Alto Office Site Slated For New Mixed-Use Apartments

Fresh architectural renderings and a formal development application have recently been unveiled for a major residential proposal located at 3350 West Bayshore Road in Palo Alto, California. Spearheaded by the San Francisco-based Strada Investment Group, this ambitious project aims to transform an underutilized commercial site into a vibrant residential community.

As housing demands shift across the region, developers are increasingly looking toward transit-accessible Bay Area locations to introduce high-density living options. While local travelers often explore things to do further north, urban renewal projects like this one are reshaping the wider Northern California landscape.

Transforming West Bayshore Road

The sweeping development will yield roughly 368,000 square feet of total residential space on a 4.08-acre property originally acquired from Alexandria Real Estate Equities. Plans detail an 88-foot-tall main structure housing over 200 apartments alongside 25 distinct for-sale townhouse-style units.

Future residents will find a diverse mix of floor plans tailored to modern housing needs within the complex. Those planning extended relocations to the region can easily compare various places to stay while permanent housing options continue to expand across the peninsula.

Apartment Breakdown and Affordability

The comprehensive housing inventory is carefully curated to feature 60 cozy studios, 112 functional one-bedrooms, and 72 spacious two-bedroom apartments. Out of the 269 total residential units planned for the site, 14 will be strictly designated as deed-restricted affordable housing for very low-income households.

The project sponsor is successfully utilizing Senate Bill 330 and the State Density Bonus law to secure a streamlined approval process. This legal framework maximizes residential capacity, helping address regional housing shortages through collaborative urban planning.

Design Team and Exterior Materials

A talented collective of design professionals has been assembled to bring the multi-faceted proposal to life. BDE Architecture is designing the primary apartment complex, SDG Architects is handling the townhomes, and The Guzzardo Partnership serves as the landscape architect.

The exterior facades will showcase a dynamic, diverse mix of materials to visually enhance the neighborhood streetscape. Design elements will prominently feature cement plaster, classic brick veneer, modern metal panels, and traditional board-and-batten siding.

Strada acquired the sizable parcel for $29 million, effectively clearing the pathway to demolish the existing life sciences building currently occupying the land. Construction costs and an official development timeline have not yet been publicly announced by the development team.
