Marin County Unveils $3.4 Million Library Upgrades

Marin County has officially wrapped up a massive $3.4 million library improvement project that transformed 10 public library branches over the course of a year. Funded through voter-approved Measure B, this comprehensive initiative brought modern study spaces, refreshed interiors, and upgraded furnishings to local communities.

From the bustling hubs down south to quiet coastal outposts like Stinson Beach, the yearlong effort successfully modernized public spaces for all patrons. Local officials recently celebrated the project’s completion with a festive ribbon-cutting ceremony right at the iconic Marin County Civic Center.

Modernizing Spaces Across Marin County

The sweeping upgrades varied significantly by location to best serve the unique needs of each neighborhood within our diverse region. Renovated branches included sites situated near Corte Madera, Fairfax, and Inverness.

Key Enhancements and Community Impact

Construction work took place between September 2025 and September 2026, incorporating brand-new shelving, service desks, and comfortable seating. Branches also received updated workstations, fresh carpeting, and vibrant interior paint jobs to brighten up reading areas.

Several locations even featured redesigned layouts, improved spaces dedicated to children and teens, outdoor furniture, and enhanced natural light. County Library Services Director Lana Adlawan noted that the primary goal was to make these civic spaces significantly more welcoming and accessible.

Careful Planning and Future Accessibility

County officials strategically phased all construction work to minimize disruptions and limit full closures for regular library patrons across the system. Additional upgraded sites featured branches in Point Reyes, Marin City, and Bolinas.

Other modernized branches included South Novato, the main Novato library, and the Civic Center branch itself. A separate accessibility project at the Civic Center Library’s California Room ultimately brought the grand total of upgraded sites to 11.
