SF Bakery Butter & Crumble Secures Temporary SoMa Kitchen

San Francisco’s beloved bakery, Butter & Crumble, has found a temporary kitchen space in SoMa after facing frustrating permitting delays at a previous North Beach location. Owner Sophie Smith secured a one-year lease on Clementina Street to keep her sweet enterprise moving forward.

This strategic move allows the bakery to bypass lengthy construction hurdles and focus entirely on fulfilling customer cravings. While exploring regional places to stay for a weekend getaway, travelers can easily plan a delicious dessert pickup across the bay.

Overcoming Obstacles in San Francisco Baking

A Fresh Start on Clementina Street

The new commercial kitchen at 438 Clementina Street is already fully equipped for baking operations. This lucky break means Smith only needs standard health permits and a simple building inspection for a ventless oven before firing things up.

Because the facility is tailored for production rather than foot traffic, operations will focus exclusively on online and phone orders. Local dessert lovers planning a trip and checking out travel tools will appreciate the seamless digital ordering system.

Exciting Menu Additions and Future Goals

Smith plans to launch online pre-orders through Hotplate by the end of the month, featuring fan favorites like lemon ricotta pistachio and chocolate ganache toffee. She also intends to introduce custom wedding cakes and celebration cakes in the new year.

The SoMa workspace will simultaneously supply fresh cake slices directly to the original Francisco Street shop for walk-in customers. Meanwhile, the search for a permanent brick-and-mortar storefront continues with renewed optimism and careful due diligence.
