Understanding the Marin Sonoma Narrows Project

This construction initiative is a critical component of the broader Marin Sonoma Narrows (MSN) B7 project. Serving as the final phase of the comprehensive 16-mile MSN program, these upgrades are designed to provide long-term relief for commuters.

Once the project reaches completion, the region will benefit from continuous High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes. This seamless transit corridor will eventually span the entire distance from Sausalito all the way up to Windsor.

Impacted Locations and Detour Information

Local motorists should prepare for intermittent closures at several key access points during these nighttime hours. Specifically, the San Antonio Road, Atherton Avenue, and De Long Avenue on- and off-ramps will be affected by the paving work.

To assist with navigation, Caltrans has established clear detour routes to minimize travel delays. Drivers are encouraged to utilize Redwood Boulevard and other nearby interchanges to reach their destinations while crews are active on the highway.

Planning Your Travels in Marin

While roadwork can be inconvenient, it is essential for the future of our county’s infrastructure. Whether you are planning a trip to enjoy our beautiful things to do or visiting from out of town, staying informed is the best way to avoid frustration.

It is worth noting that all scheduled construction is dependent on favorable weather conditions. If you are staying at any of our local places to stay, we recommend checking local conditions before heading out late at night.

Essential Tips for Local Commuters

  • Monitor Caltrans QuickMap or 511.org for real-time traffic updates.
  • Exercise extra caution and remain alert when driving through active work zones.
  • Plan for additional travel time if your route includes the affected sections of US-101.

As we look forward to the completion of these HOV lanes, we appreciate the patience of all residents and visitors. Staying updated with available travel tools remains the most effective way to navigate Marin County safely during this transition.
