A Late-Night Operation in Novato

On Sunday, just as Novato was settling down, a routine traffic stop took an unexpected turn. Officers with the Novato Police Department responded to reports of suspicious activity.

It’s worth pointing out that local residents played a big role here. Their vigilance, from Novato to Tiburon and Belvedere, helps keep the streets safer.

From Suspicious Activity to a Major Bust

The traffic stop happened around 1:30 a.m. near Diablo Avenue and Redwood Boulevard. Officers quickly realized this was more than a minor infraction.

Inside the vehicle, they found a substantial amount of suspected cocaine. The drugs were packaged for sale and hidden away.

This points to a possible network aiming to distribute narcotics in our communities. Frankly, it’s unsettling to think how far these substances could reach, from West Marin to Sausalito.

Officers also found a loaded firearm. For Marin County residents, this detail is especially troubling.

The weapon had no serial number, making it untraceable. That kind of gun poses a real threat, but thankfully, Novato police got it off the street.

Individuals Apprehended, Charges Pending

Police identified the two people arrested as Cory Hernandez Padilla, 18, and Lamar Perryman, 23, both from Santa Rosa. Padilla faces suspicion of possessing cocaine with intent to sell, which is a serious charge affecting towns like Larkspur and San Rafael.

Perryman faces firearm-related charges and also had an outstanding warrant. That suggests more to his story, but details are still emerging.

As of Wednesday, both men had been released from custody. The Marin County District Attorney’s Office hadn’t filed formal charges yet.

That’s not unusual in the early stages, since prosecutors need time to review evidence. Still, these arrests show the Novato Police Department remains proactive, and that’s something to appreciate.

The Power of Community Reporting

The Novato Police Department quickly praised the witnesses who reported suspicious activity. Their detailed tips kicked off the traffic stop.

Honestly, it proves something important: your eyes and ears are our most valuable allies when it comes to keeping places like Mill Valley and Corte Madera safe. When people in the neighborhood notice things and actually say something, it really helps get threats off our streets.

Even in Marin County, where everything seems pretty peaceful, we can’t let our guard down. The fact that officers seized those drugs and an untraceable firearm? That’s a big win, no question.

We’re lucky to have law enforcement officers who work late nights and early mornings to keep us safe. As more details come out, we’ll keep an eye on this story.
