Enhancing Regional Transit and Commuter Flow

Boosting Frequency and Capacity on Key Lines

Major changes are hitting several popular routes to ensure that passengers experience shorter wait times and more breathing room on board. According to SFMTA Director of Transportation Julie Kirschbaum, these modifications deliver immediate benefits to thousands of daily riders who rely on the network.

Key transit corridors like the 1-California and N-Judah lines now feature improved peak arrival frequencies moving from every ten minutes down to every nine minutes. Meanwhile, the 5R-Fulton Rapid has successfully transitioned to utilizing larger 60-foot buses arriving every ten minutes to drastically expand passenger capacity.

Morning peak-hour capacity is also expanding significantly on the 22-Fillmore, 29-Sunset, 38R-Geary Rapid, and 49-Van Ness/Mission lines. Passengers utilizing the 29-Sunset can additionally enjoy increased evening service, while the 22-Owl now provides much more reliable overnight service running every 30 minutes.

Supporting Students and Local Schools

Several transit adjustments have been carefully coordinated with the San Francisco Unified School District’s academic calendar to better serve local students. These student-focused adjustments remove traditional bottlenecks and make getting to campus much more straightforward.

Students traveling from Visitacion Valley to Francisco Middle School on the 8AX-Bayshore Express will no longer require a cumbersome transfer pass. Furthermore, the 28R-19th Avenue Rapid has added a brand-new stop at 19th Avenue and Eucalyptus Drive to better accommodate Lowell High School students.
