A Chula Vista man faces arrest after the tragic death of his landlord’s daughter. Police found her body in a nearby park, following a missing person report that had everyone on edge.

The details point to a landlord-tenant dispute that spiraled into violence.

A Disturbing Discovery in Chula Vista

Everything started on Sunday afternoon. Police got a call about a missing woman from Via Curvada, a quiet street not far from the busier parts of Chula Vista.

Her sister, clearly worried, had reported her missing after a visit to their mother’s house. Apparently, the woman went there to confront a tenant she’d been having issues with.

When officers arrived, they saw signs that something was very wrong. The missing woman’s car sat in the driveway, and inside the home, there were obvious signs of a struggle and injury.

Detectives jumped into the investigation right away. It didn’t take long before they realized the landlord-tenant conflict played a big role in what happened here.

Escalating Tensions and a Confession

Detectives started piecing together the story. They learned that the tenant and the missing woman had been locked in a heated dispute.

The situation spiraled when the tenant reportedly told police he killed the woman. To make matters worse, he wouldn’t say where her body was, which left the family in a terrible limbo.

Meanwhile, a local out for a walk with their dog in Paseo Del Rey Park—a spot plenty of Chula Vista folks know well—noticed something strange. Less than half a mile from Via Curvada, the dog walker spotted something off in the thick bushes and didn’t hesitate to call the authorities.

That quick thinking made all the difference. Responding detectives searched the area the dog walker pointed out.

Tragic Confirmation in Paseo Del Rey Park

They found the missing woman’s body, hidden deep in the brush. The park, usually a cheerful place for families from Bonita and Eastlake, had become the scene of something heartbreaking.

Authorities haven’t released her identity yet. They’re holding back out of respect for her grieving family.

Robert Watkins, a 41-year-old resident of Chula Vista, was booked on suspicion of murder. He’s being held without bail as police continue their investigation.

Chula Vista Police Lt. David Oyos shared these details in a news release, giving a glimpse into the painstaking work behind the scenes. It’s unsettling, honestly—a reminder that even in our quiet corners of San Diego County, tragedy can strike. My heart goes out to the victim’s family and everyone affected. No one should have to go through this.
