This isn’t just another restaurant launch. It’s a blend of seasoned expertise, inventive cuisine, and a heartfelt connection to Marin—promising to shake up San Anselmo’s already lively food scene.
A Culinary Dream Team with a Marin Connection
Adam Block leads the charge here. He’s a familiar name in the Bay Area’s food world, thanks to a long history of brokering and running acclaimed restaurants.
Block brings experience from places like Thomas Keller’s legendary Per Se. That’s a big deal. He’s also currently dealing with some legal disputes involving Jeffrey Cerciello, chef-owner of Farmshop in Larkspur. Those legal matters are separate from Tụ Tập, and both sides are sticking to their positions as things move toward trial.
Justine Kelly takes the reins in the kitchen as Executive Chef and Partner. She’s spent 18 years at The Slanted Door, and her roots run deep in San Anselmo.
She grew up here. Tụ Tập is her tribute to Charles Phan, the late founder of The Slanted Door. That personal touch brings some real heart and purpose to the project.
Tụ Tập will open in the old Kientz Hall space at 625 San Anselmo Ave. The location feels just right for what they’re planning.
There’s talk of a spacious rooftop patio, too. Imagine those views of Mount Tamalpais—classic Marin.
A Menu That Marries Tradition and Innovation
Tụ Tập’s menu promises a real adventure. Expect modern takes on Vietnamese classics, all built around fresh, seasonal ingredients.
They’re putting a mesquite grill front and center. That means dishes will come with a smoky twist you won’t forget.
There’s also a dedicated raw bar in the works. It’ll offer a crisp, sophisticated selection—something a bit different for the area.
If you’re into weekend brunch, you’re in luck. They’ll serve a dim sum–inspired brunch, blending Chinese and Vietnamese flavors.
Picture delicate dumplings and steaming bowls of pho, all with Tụ Tập’s modern spin. That brunch could quickly become a weekend staple from Sausalito to Novato.
Kelly’s entrepreneurial streak shows up in other ways, too. She co-founded Sun Basket, and now Tụ Tập will offer grab-and-go dumplings and handy meal kits.
That means you can bring Tụ Tập’s flavors home, whether you live in Mill Valley or Tiburon.
An Urban Vibe for Suburban Comfort
Bill Upson from the Real Restaurants group—a name locals know well—is also a partner in this new venture.
John Nguyen, who was first hired as chef de cuisine, has left the project. That happened after some questions came up about his background.
Block wants the restaurant’s downstairs lounge and the upstairs patio bar to channel an “urban” vibe. They’re aiming for something that feels fresh but still fits right in for suburban diners who’d rather stay close to home.
The idea is to make a place that’s both polished and welcoming. It’s supposed to be the kind of spot you’d pick for a night out in San Anselmo.
People are definitely curious as the opening gets closer. It could end up being a real highlight in Marin County’s dining scene.
