State Senate District 2: A Clear Path Emerges

In the race for the open State Senate District 2 seat, current State Assemblymember Damon Connolly is out in front. He’s secured a strong majority of the vote so far, which puts him in a solid position to move on to the November ballot.

He’ll likely face Republican Tief Gibbs in the next round. Connolly, who knows Marin County inside and out, keeps hammering away at his campaign’s main points.

He talks a lot about affordability—something that feels pretty urgent for many folks here. He’s also laser-focused on environmental resilience, which matters a lot to people in places like Sausalito and Mill Valley.

On top of that, Connolly’s made it clear he’s determined to protect California from what he calls “Trump-era policies.” That message seems to have struck a chord with plenty of voters across the county.

His years of local leadership, especially in cities like San Rafael, have built him a solid reputation. He’s racked up endorsements from people and groups that carry real weight.

We’re talking about Reps. Jared Huffman and Adam Schiff, Attorney General Rob Bonta, Dolores Huerta, the Sierra Club, and LIUNA. That list shows Connolly’s got deep roots and a track record of standing up for the region.

Connolly hasn’t held back on criticizing heavy outside spending from so-called “AI and crypto interests.” He sees this as a problem with our campaign finance laws.

A lot of Marin residents seem to share his concerns about money in politics and want more transparency. That conversation isn’t going away anytime soon as we head toward November.

Assembly District 12: A Tight Race for Representation

Meanwhile, the contest for State Assembly District 12, the seat Damon Connolly left behind, is shaping up to be much closer than expected. Marin County Supervisor Eric Lucan is in a competitive second-place spot.

Lucan has built a reputation for dedicated service to communities like Novato and Petaluma. Now, he’s vying for his next step in public service.

The early results show a tight race. Republican corrections officer Eryn Cervantes holds a slim lead, with Jackie Elward just a bit behind Lucan.

Final election results won’t be certified until early July. Lucan has pointed out that the outcome for District 12 could easily shift as every vote—from Tiburon to Fairfax—gets counted.

Eryn Cervantes touts endorsements from both state and county Republican parties. She leans on her two decades of experience in corrections and her legal background, signaling a focus on public safety and law-and-order.

Lucan and Elward, meanwhile, bring experience from local government. That kind of background matters for understanding the real, day-to-day needs of people in places like Larkspur and San Anselmo.

Their regional endorsements show they’ve built solid networks and have support within Marin County’s political circles.
