Local pride was on full display. This thrilling event saw a familiar champion reclaim his title on the challenging Bay Area terrain.

Elite athletes showed off their grit and determination against the stunning coastline backdrop, from the waters of San Francisco Bay to the undulating roads of Marin.

The Podium Predominance: A German Domination

This year’s San Francisco T100 featured a remarkable display of European prowess. Rico Bogen of Germany clinched his second consecutive title in spectacular fashion.

Bogen outpaced his compatriot, Lasse Nygaard Priester, who secured a strong second place. Hayden Wilde rounded out the top three, reclaiming a podium spot after a challenging race.

A Swift Start in the Bay

The race kicked off with a demanding 2km swim, starting from a boat out in the iconic San Francisco Bay. Those swift currents—something anyone training near Tiburon or Sausalito knows all too well—made for some surprisingly fast swim times.

Early on, American talent Morgan Pearson emerged from the water in the lead. He set a brisk pace for the rest of the field as they transitioned to their bikes.

Navigating the Challenges: Penalties and Prowess

As the athletes moved into the cycling leg, the race quickly turned into a strategic battle. There were exceptional performances, but also a few minor setbacks.

Lasse Nygaard Priester, a contender from Denmark, picked up a 30-second equipment penalty during the first transition (T1). Later, on the tough 80km bike course winding through Marin County’s scenic vistas near Novato and Mill Valley, French athlete Léo Bergère received a 60-second drafting penalty.

The Bike Breakaway: Bogen Takes Control

From the start of the bike leg, Bogen and Priester established a commanding presence. They broke away from the pack and built a nearly half-minute advantage after just the first lap.

Bogen showed off incredible stamina and smart pacing on the inclines around Mount Tamalpais. He steadily extended his lead.

By the time they hopped off their bikes, Bogen had carved out a significant 2 minute and 25-second gap over Priester. Hayden Wilde, battling his own pre-race sensitivities, found himself in third place—a considerable 5 minutes and 35 seconds behind the leaders—after also struggling with his wetsuit during T1.

The Gravel Grind: A Blustery Finish

The final leg of the race was an 18km run, and it brought its own kind of pain. Most of it wound along gravel paths, and the wind was just relentless—athletes had to dig even deeper as they pushed toward the finish line in the heart of San Francisco.

Priester gave it everything, trying to close the gap on Bogen. But that late-race 30-second penalty? It really got in his way.

Heart and Grit: Priester’s Remarkable Comeback

Priester had already survived a serious heart scare, but you could see his determination as he fought all the way to the end. He showed real resilience, finishing just 1 minute and 6 seconds behind Bogen.

Hayden Wilde wasn’t in top shape, but he still managed to grab third place. Even on a tough San Francisco course, he proved his grit and class.

Beyond the Top Three: Shuffling the Series Standings

The San Francisco T100 shook up the series standings in a big way. Morgan Pearson and Jason West both turned in strong races, taking fourth and fifth.

Bogen clocked a winning time of 3 hours, 17 minutes, and 25 seconds. His splits: 17:54 for the swim, 1:55:34 on the bike, and 1:00:35 for the run.

Hayden Wilde now leads the series with 61 points. Bogen’s win gave him a much-needed 35 points, shooting him up the leaderboard.

Honestly, it’s hard not to admire the level of athleticism and drama these triathletes bring to Marin County. Every race here just seems to deliver.
