The scoreboard didn’t go our way this time, with a final of 14-6. Still, the spirit of Marin County sports feels as lively as ever, and there’s good stuff happening in other local sports too.
Pacifics Find Themselves Behind Early, But Fight Back
Saturday night in San Rafael, the Pacifics slipped behind quickly, trailing Bakersfield 7-0. If you’ve followed Marin baseball a while, you know the Pacifics don’t quit easily.
In the bottom of the third, Aki Buckson fired up the crowd with a three-run homer, closing the gap and giving fans a real jolt of hope. The place lit up—these are the moments you show up for.
The home runs kept coming. In the fifth, Fred Buckson crushed a solo shot, flexing the lineup’s power. Aki Buckson wasn’t done and sent another ball flying deep to center in the eighth, his second homer of the night.
People from Terra Linda, North San Rafael, and beyond got to see some fireworks. That’s the kind of play that keeps you coming back to Albert Park.
Even with those highlights, the Pacifics just couldn’t string together enough offense to catch the Train Robbers. In the ninth, Kyle Guerra singled to bring in Payton Rios for one last run.
The rally fizzled out there, and that was that.
Looking Ahead for the Pacifics and Marin Athletics
This loss drops the Pacifics to 5-4 for the season. The Pecos League doesn’t make it easy, and right now they’re 1-3 against Bakersfield after the first month.
Still, I’d say it’s worth sticking with them. If you’re from Corte Madera or Belvedere Tiburon, maybe make the short drive and catch their next game—Sunday at 2 p.m. in Martinez. Could be a good way to spend an afternoon.
Tam High Celebrates Athletic Excellence
Beyond the diamond in San Rafael, something different is brewing for our community. Tamalpais High School (Tam), a proud institution serving students across Marin County, is now accepting nominations for its second Athletics Hall of Fame class.
It’s a fantastic chance to honor Tam athletes and teams whose achievements go back to 2016 or earlier. If you’re interested, you can grab nomination forms on the tamhighboosters.com website.
The formal ceremony for the inductees will happen on November 7th. I bet plenty of alumni and community members are already circling that date on their calendars.
This whole thing really shows off Tam High’s deep athletic history, which stretches through North Bay communities like Mill Valley and Larkspur.
A Note on Local Sports Reporting
Quick heads-up for coaches: when it comes to game scores and stats, email or Twitter works best. Due to shifting print deadlines, most events will now show up in print a day later.
It might be a small change, but it helps the Marin County Newspaper team keep our sports coverage as fresh and thorough as possible for readers in Sausalito and beyond.
