Fourth of July Parade and Road Closures in Marin County

Corte Madera‘s beloved Fourth of July Parade and Art Fair is almost here again. Folks should expect some serious traffic impacts during the festivities in the heart of Marin County.

The annual event means multiple road closures across Corte Madera and nearby Larkspur. This will affect access to shopping spots and neighborhoods, so a heads-up is in order for anyone coming to the parade or just trying to get around central Marin that day.

Parade Route and Schedule Details

The Independence Day celebration starts at 10:30 a.m. with a lively parade launching from Redwood High School in Larkspur. Parade participants will travel along a scenic route that highlights some of central Marin’s most charming streets.

The procession winds through Doherty Drive, then continues along Magnolia Avenue before turning onto Corte Madera Avenue. After that, the parade heads down Redwood Avenue and finishes up at the intersection of Tamalpais and Madera Boulevard.

Road Closure Timeline

The Central Marin Police Department has laid out a pretty thorough closure plan to keep everyone safe. Roads along and near the parade route will close at 10:00 a.m. and should reopen around 1:30 p.m., when the parade wraps up.

These closures will disrupt traffic around Corte Madera and parts of Larkspur. If you’re coming from Mill Valley, Tiburon, or San Rafael, you might want to rethink your route if you plan to pass through the area.

Alternative Routes for Shoppers and Residents

With so many main roads blocked off, getting to places like the Corte Madera Town Center will take a little extra planning. After 10:00 a.m., only parade traffic can access Madera Boulevard from westbound Tamalpais Drive.

If you’re heading to the Town Center, try these options:

  • Take the Madera Boulevard exit from US-101 Southbound
  • Use the Paradise Drive exit from US-101 Northbound
  • Public transit from Sausalito or Novato could save you some hassle
  • Magnolia Avenue shuts to southbound traffic at Bon Air Road. Both Corte Madera Avenue and Redwood Avenue close at their town limits for the parade, making things tricky for Greenbrae and Larkspur residents trying to reach Corte Madera.

    Neighborhood Access Restrictions

Some local streets will be tough to access during the event. Lucky Drive closes at Fifer Avenue, and all traffic gets redirected to Tamal Vista Boulevard.

If you’re coming from Ross, San Anselmo, or Fairfax and heading to southern Marin, Sir Francis Drake Boulevard is probably your best bet. Pixley Avenue stays closed all day, with access just for Pixley and lower Redwood Avenue residents.

    Parking Considerations for Event Attendees

Parking will be tight all over Corte Madera and Larkspur during the Fourth of July celebration. The tennis court parking lot near Corte Madera Town Park is set aside just for arts and crafts vendors.

Visitors from Belvedere, Strawberry, and Kentfield should try to arrive early. Carpooling might help you snag a spot in the public lots.

The Fourth of July Parade and Art Fair brings together residents from Woodacre to Marin City. People gather to celebrate our nation’s independence.

Road closures might slow things down for a bit. Still, they keep the event safe and lively—a summer highlight in central Marin, if you ask me.
