Valasek and Guerra Lead Pacifics to Win in Season Opener

The Marin County high school baseball scene roared to life this week as NCS playoff action and Pecos League results rolled through San Rafael, Novato, Petaluma, and beyond. From San Marin’s dramatic upset to Redwood’s NorCal run and Archie Williams’ late-game surge, Marin County towns like Novato, Larkspur, Mill Valley, and San Anselmo buzzed with state-bound momentum and postseason grit.

Marin County Baseball Scene: NCS Playoffs and Beyond

Across San Rafael, Novato, and nearby communities, teams chased titles and bragging rights in the North Coast Section playoffs. The weekend delivered big swings, clutch pitching, and some performances that’ll stick in Marin County baseball lore for years.

San Marin pulls off a gem against Saint Mary’s, eyes NCS semifinal

In the NCS Division III quarterfinals, San Marin (Novato) stunned Saint Mary’s 17-4. That win earned them a semifinal date with Pittsburg.

The rally cap came on a three-run single by Dylan Procopio in the sixth, after he’d already hit a two-run homer earlier. The Mustangs rode big swings and timely hitting to advance out of a packed bracket in Marin County.

  • Dylan Procopio — 4-for-6, including the six-inning three-run blast and earlier homer
  • Matthew Baldino — 3-for-3 with a double
  • Will Brady — drove in two runs
  • Jaden Brown — 5 innings, 6 strikeouts, 2 earned runs

Redwood’s complete-game gem sends Giants to D-I semifinal

In Larkspur, Redwood High School leaned on a dominant outing from Jack Moseley to knock off Petaluma 7-1 in the NCS Division I quarterfinals. That punched their ticket to face top seed De La Salle in the semifinals.

Moseley gave up just two hits, fanned four, and went the distance. Redwood looked sharp when it mattered.

  • Jack Moseley — 4 strikeouts, 2 hits allowed in a complete game
  • Redwood — 7, Petaluma — 1
  • Next up: De La Salle in Concord for the semifinal

Novato’s season ends in D-I quarterfinals against De La Salle

In a tight D-I quarterfinal battle, Novato fell 4-3 to De La Salle. That loss closed the Hornets’ season at 21-7.

JP Harmon worked six innings, struck out four, and allowed six hits. Novato bowed out with plenty of pride in Marin County’s baseball spotlight.

  • JP Harmon — 4 strikeouts, six hits over six innings
  • Final record: Novato 21-7

Montgomery overwhelms Branson in NCS Division V quarterfinal

Montgomery erupted to a 14-4 victory over Branson in the Division V bracket. They turned the tide after an early Branson rally.

For the visitors, Jonah Bordon and Holden Cane supplied the brightest spots in defeat as Marin County teams pushed deep into the postseason.

  • Montgomery — 14, Branson — 4
  • Branson offensively led by Jonah Bordon and Holden Cane

Marin Catholic and Foothill deadlock in 12 innings

In a tense NCS Division II quarterfinal clash, Marin Catholic and Foothill were tied 5-5 through 12 innings. The suspended game is set to resume Saturday at 9 a.m.

The winner moves on to face No. 12 Casa Grande.

Archie Williams edges Tam in Division IV quarterfinals

In a San Anselmo showdown, Archie Williams edged rival Tamalpais 5-3. They scored three runs in the top of the seventh to pull away.

The Tigers advance to face Newark Memorial in a rematch of Marin County showdowns.

Redwood’s NorCal run ends with loss to Harker

Redwood High’s bid for a NorCal title ended with a 4-3 defeat to Harker in the CIF NorCal semifinals at Folsom. That closed a strong postseason run for the Larkspur program.

Pecos League Update: San Rafael Pacifics start season with rout

In the Pecos League, San Rafael Pacifics opened the season with a 14-0 blowout of the Austin Weirdos. Alex Valasek hurled six innings of two-hit ball.

Kyle Guerra homered in his first at-bat, finishing 4-for-6 with a homer and a two-run triple. Not a bad way to start the year, honestly.

  • Alex Valasek — six innings, two hits allowed
  • Kyle Guerra — 4-for-6 with homer and two-run triple
  • Team result: Pacifics 14, Austin Weirdos 0

Community notes

Nearby school communities keep things moving with fresh opportunities and reminders for athletes and fans.

  • Tam wants nominations for its Athletics Hall of Fame. They’re considering athletes from the class of 2016 or earlier.
  • Redwood is on the lookout for varsity sideline cheer coaches.
  • Coaches should report game results to the Marin Independent Journal. You can send updates by email or even just tweet them.

From San Rafael to Novato, and out on the windswept fields of Larkspur and Mill Valley, Marin County’s baseball scene keeps showing off young talent. The community’s support and the stubborn spirit of local sports are hard to miss.

More postseason updates are coming soon as Marin teams chase their title dreams. Folks around here love to celebrate the players who help put Marin County on the national baseball map.
